FAQ

Despite our name, we do not offer cherry picking. Our farm produces its own high-quality cheeses, meats, and eggs, and offers a variety of locally produced goods in the farm store. Activities to do on our farm include petting and feeding our hospitality animals, picnicking in our garden, and a variety of pre-scheduled events such as cheesemaking classes, hay rides, and farm tours. See the Classes & Activities section of this website for a full listing.

We share a name and land with Cherry Grove Organic Farm, but we are separate entities. Cherry Grove Organic Farm, around the corner from us at 11 Carter Road, sells organic vegetables, flowers, and herbs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-7 and offers a CSA as well. See their website for more details: http://cherrygroveorganic.com/

While we are not officially certified organic, we do not use any man-made, inorganic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides of any kind. Our fields are managed solely through the use of intensive rotational grazing and very select mowing when necessary.
Furthermore, we utilize primarily herbal and organic methods to see to the health needs of our animals and rely on antibiotics only as a last resort. If we do, you can be assured that those animals are segregated until the antibiotics have cleared their system. Our cows are as close to 100% grass-fed as we can manage in a four-season environment, and we raise our own hay for wintertime. What little feed we use for supplemental nurtrion is non-GMO and specifically formulated based on the mineral content of our farm’s soil.
To have products certified and labelled as organic, every part of the process from the insemination to the butchering of the animal has to be examined, found to conform to standards, approved, and certified every year for a fee, which is a burden for a small, family-owned farm. We raise our animals to the highest possible standards of a sustainable, organic operation, but we do not go the extra step of certification.

We occasionally offer selected seasonal produce items such as heirloom tomatoes in the summer, but our main purview is cheese, meat, and eggs. We also have apples, carrots, or other similar fresh goodies available for purchase in the farm store for visitors to feed to our goats and sheep. For a larger array of fresh produce, we recommend checking out one of the many local farm stands such as Cherry Grove Organic Farm, Village Farms, Great Meadow Farm & Market, Terhune Orchards, Chickadee Creek, Kerr’s Kornstand, Cherry Valley Farm, and Bridgepoint Run Farm (to name a few).

All of our meat is retail-packed and sold frozen (aside from our cured meats and jerky). Another local farm such as Bridgepoint Run may be able to help you with a livestock purchase.
-
We do not. It is not legal to sell raw fluid milk in the state of New Jersey. We have an array of raw milk cheeses you can enjoy instead!
It is possible that Amish vendors such as those at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia or in the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania may provide raw milk.
We use all of our milk to make cheese, and the whey from our milk is used to fertilize our pastures and feed our pigs.

As we are a small farm whose production is dependent on weather and other unpredictable factors, we cannot guarantee the availability of any particular cheese, cut of meat, or our pasture-raised eggs. You are always welcome to call our Farm Store at (609) 219-0053 to check if something is in stock and if it is not, we are happy to notify you and put it aside the next time it’s available.
